Our Paste service has new version of underlaying software – PrivateBin.

For the ones that do not already know the product PrivateBin is  a minimalist and open-source online pastebin. PrivateBin follows a zero-knowledge approach, where the server has no knowledge of the content being pasted. The 1.7.1 update brings several enhancements and fixes to improve the functionality and security of the platform. In this blog post, we will explore the key features and improvements introduced in the latest version of PrivateBin.

Key Features and Enhancements:

  1. Administration Script: The latest update introduces a new script called “administration” that assists with administrative tasks. This script enables users to delete pastes, remove empty pastes, and perform other administrative actions more efficiently.
  2. Improved S3 Storage: The update includes an improvement for the S3 storage feature. This enhancement ensures smoother and more reliable storage of pastes on Amazon S3, providing users with a seamless experience.
  3. Library Updates: PrivateBin regularly updates its libraries to maintain security and compatibility. The latest version includes updates to several libraries, ensuring that the platform remains up-to-date with the latest security patches and improvements.

Bug Fixes:

  1. HTML Entity Double Encoding Issues: The previous release (v1.3.2 & v1.2.2) introduced HTML entity double encoding issues. However, the latest update (v1.7.1) addresses these issues, ensuring that pasted content is displayed correctly without any encoding problems.
  2. Smaller Issue Fixes: The latest update also includes fixes for various smaller issues reported by users. These fixes enhance the overall stability and performance of PrivateBin, providing a smoother and more reliable pasting experience.

The latest update of PrivateBin (v1.7.1) brings significant enhancements and bug fixes to this minimalist online pastebin. With the introduction of the administration script, improved S3 storage, and various bug fixes, PrivateBin continues to prioritize user privacy and security. Users can enjoy a seamless and secure pasting experience while maintaining complete control over their data.

Zerobin is currently in unmaintained state. Fortunately the community picked up the idea and this is how PrivateBin was created.

It is a fork of ZeroBin, originally developed by Sébastien Sauvage. ZeroBin was refactored to allow easier and cleaner extensions. PrivateBin has many more features than the original ZeroBin.

PrivateBin provides:

  • As a server administrator you don’t have to worry if your users post content that is considered illegal in your country. You have no knowledge of any of the pastes content. If requested or enforced, you can delete any paste from your system.

  • Pastebin-like system to store text documents, code samples, etc.

  • Encryption of data sent to server.

  • Possibility to set a password which is required to read the paste. It further protects a paste and prevents people stumbling upon your paste’s link from being able to read it without the password.

You can create new one or use Updated https://zerobin.hbcom.info.

With recent concerns about privacy over internet I’va added Terms of Service, Privacy policy and Cookie policy.

Please, review them.

Finally finished the upgrade – sorry for any inconvenience it toke me a bit more time.

As usual on major release there is new requirement so be sure to check them before upgrading.

I proceeded as usual – following instructions from wordpress web site, but on the last step (database upgrade) I was surprised with message that my DB version is not supported in new version.

So I had to create new one and upload all SQL data from the backup (you have one of course) happily I was able to do it without any modifications.

If you’ve noticed any quirks, please let me know.
